Deadline for UKCA mark extended by 12 months
Companies will have an extra year to put new product safety labels on most products marketed in England, Scotland and Wales, the government announced on 24 August.
UK Conformity Assessed marking (UKCA) gives the UK control over its goods regulations and maintains the high product safety standards expected in the UK.
Recognising the impact of the pandemic on business, the government is extending the deadline for UKCA marking of certain products to show compliance with product safety regulations to 1 January 2023 instead of 1 January 2022.
The UKCA mark replaces the product safety labelling that the UK previously used when it was a member of the EU, such as the CE mark. The announcement follows the government's extensive and ongoing dialogue with business groups and reflects the concerns raised by businesses, particularly given the impact of the pandemic.
Businesses must take action to ensure they are ready to apply the UKCA mark by 1 January 2023, the deadline.
